Summer 2021 PDI Competition 1 – Results

Our first competition of the season had 49 entries from 17 members. The judge, Chris Whitling commented on the high quality of the images overall. In the end it was a very tight competition, but ahead of the pack, the winner by a clear margin was David Watkins, who scored one 20 and two 19s. In second was Stella, Maureen and Ramesh.

PDI Competition this Friday 18th June

It is time for our first competition of the Summer Programme. It is an open subject, so anything goes.
Images should be uploaded via the photoentry site. See link under members area after signing in.
Members can enter up to 3 images each, which will be assessed and marked by an external judge. Marks are given out of 20 for each image; the member who scores the highest marks over the Summer wins a free membership to the 2021/2022 season.

The deadline for uploading photos will be this Wednesday at 23:59.

Images should be resized to fit 1600×1200, the photoentry site will do this for you, if your image is not too big.

If you are new I would encourage you to enter. The judges are usually very good and will give you valuable feedback on your images.

PDI Summer Competition 1

Our first competition of the Summer Programme is now open for entries. There is no set subject and the competition will be judged by Chris Whiting on the 18th June.

The combined winner of our competitions this summer will receive a special prize, so if you have yet to join us for low price of £7, now is the time.

This Friday, 11th of June, we will meet for a walk around Hosehill Lake ,Theale. Please check the website for updates as this is subject to change.

“Where I Photograph Wildlife in the UK” with Malcolm Hupman

This Friday we continue our summer programme with the first talk for the season. Malcolm’s presentation features 134 different species of Birds, Butterflies and Mammals at 37 different locations with Maps and Directions showing Date, Equipment and Settings.

All events in our summer programme. including 3 more talks, walks, competitions and other events are available to guests for the low total sum of £7. See our website for more details. All events, except walks, are virtual via zoom.

PDI Competition 8 April 16th

42 Images was submitted, and judged by Peter Markwick. Once again we had a lot of high scoring images with 7 photos achieving a maximum score of 20. Stella Fagg managed the impressive task of scoring a 20 on all of her images, and was the clear winner of the competition. David Childs were runner up, while Drew Malloch secured the 3rd place.

Brian Hodgson Trophy

Doors and Entrances was the set topic for this season’s Brian Hodgson Trophy competition. 17 members took part and were judged by Daan Olivier. Out of the 51 images submitted Daan held back 15 images, which indicates the high standard of the photos submitted. In the end 2 photos got commended and 2 highly commended in addition to the top 3 places.


This year’s winner of the Brian Hodgson Trophy was Janet Marshall LRPS with Deliveroooxford. Runner up was Steven Day with Church Gates, and Stella Fagg’s Making An Entrances secured her third place.

Robert Harvey – Notes and Links
