Just the title of speaker Ken Scotts’ talk made the ears prick up – “ Touching the light – with a difference ! “ On his second visit to our club, Ken reminded us that it’s not the photographer that makes a shot – it’s the light! In a truly inspirational talk, given to the club and invited guests, in the first half we joined his travels through the high peaks of the Pyrenees, the Scottish Highlands and to less well-known mountains in
such unexpected places as, for example, Costa Blanca in Spain. He explained that, for him, the appeal was the mountains and the light – the photography was ( almost ) incidental ( though how many club members will take up camping in the snow to emulate his pictures we’re not sure! )
In the second half we returned almost entirely to the UK, Ken explaining again that the principle element of any image is light – making the best use of the light available, whatever the weather conditions, and whatever your subject. Our programme listed this as “ the highlight of the season” – pun probably intended –
But it was certainly true. We look forward to his next visit.
